"Manky Bastards" is an attempt by Michael Farquhar to create an art event by trailing around the bars of Manchester and asking anyone he meets that creates to participate in an art show in Glasgow, as much an excuse for a piss up as an art show..,
i spent two months asking friends, work colleagues and randoms that i met in bars and party's in Manchester if they wanted to participate in an art show. this is the result.. as much a party, networking opportunity and experiment as it is an art show.

The Tension between the painting as an object and of its illusionary qualities have always fascinated me. The surface of a piece should have just as much interest as the statement of the work. The more the viewer has to pull from, the more angles you approach a piece the more substance- physically and artistic, are key for the progress of what a work can hold within. The scenarios are like quick snap shots of a full story that can be taken to have a full narrative. Yet I will never be the one to tell you what the work is about- it takes something away from you-the viewing public. It bashes your ideas. And that is just wrong AMM

Taking romanticised modes of production as a starting point, Neil Clements draws out a sense of fatalism inseparable from the idea of a purely formal artwork. The collapse of abstract painting as a viable philosophical model in the middle of the 20th century is often contextualised by a musical analogue in order to investigate the superstition underlying the employment of an art object as a vessel for idealism.

A dedication to teenage influences, Paranoid is an investigation into the similarities between Op Art and psychedelic record sleeve design. Documentation of Op Arts unwitting marriage to fashion- aptly demonstrated by photographs of artists Bridget Riley and Tess Jaray posed as glamorous accessories to their paintings- is utilised in order to analyse this contamination of a studio-based enquiry by other cultural elements. A distended version of Black Sabbaths Paranoid is presented as the soundtrack to paintings that work together to create an alternative narrative through the deliberate confusion of musical and artistic sources. Approx 130 visitors.

Lyndsey Macleod :dose

Lyndsey Macleod will be working in the gallery for three weeks creating her forms from plaster. We will then have a one week exhibition.

Referencing alchemical symbolism and the use and fabrication of poisons in antiquity, Macleod combines juxtaposing symbols of life and death in these sculptures. Particular emphasis is placed on the production of arsenic in the 17th century, performed by certain perfumers. Specific physical materials are employed to investigate and communicate these ideas. Cathy Richmond ran the Pentagon art space for a number of years, sadly after battling a long illness she died earlier this year.
